MASSAGE THERAPY/THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.
Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy. Swedish massage is the most common and best-known type of massage. Swedish massage is the foundation for other types of Western massage including sports massage and deep tissue massage and is based on anatomy and physiology. Swedish massage techniques involve manipulation of soft tissues, muscles, ligaments, tendons, connective tissue and joint capsules.
This massage is ideal for relaxing tense muscles, easing stress and tension, relieving pain and improving sleep.
Most people book a 60 minute Swedish massage, but 75 or 90 minutes gives the therapist more time to work the muscle tissue and achieve results.
Is an ideal treatment for those seeking a deeper, firmer treatment, to release chronic or recurring muscular tension.
Whether you are suffering from a specific sports-related injury or general bodily wear and tear to training for an upcoming event, or trying to get your body into the best shape possible, you can benefit from our well-skilled RMTs to help you get on the road to healing.
Each pregnancy is as unique as each woman. Therefore, each massage therapy treatment is tailored to meet the individual needs of the patient. The mom-to-be will be positioned with pillows to ensure maximum comfort during the massage.
Pregnancy massage is used to improve circulation, alleviate backache, and reduce leg cramps and swelling that often accompany pregnancy.
All of our therapists are trained in prenatal massage and are able to adjust their techniques to meet your specific needs.
WARM STONE MASSAGE
Warm stones and Swedish massage techniques are used together to release tension and elongate muscles. The direct warmth relaxes muscles, allowing for a deeper massage without deeper pressure. A warm stone massage treatment can be applied to the full body or locally for a specific focus.
Warm Stone Massage may be added to a massage therapy treatment for an additional $10/session.
Therapeutic ultrasound is a modality that has been used by health care providers since the 1940s. Ultrasound is applied using an ultrasound probe and gel placed directly on your skin. The ultrasound waves are generated by the vibration of crystals within the head of the ultrasound wand. The sound waves that pass through the skin cause a vibration of the local tissues. This vibration can cause a deep heating locally, although the patient usually doesn’t not feel any heat. In situations where a heating effect is not desirable, such as an injury with acute inflammation, the ultrasound can be pulsed rather than continuously transmitted. Ultrasound is often used for approximately 4 to 10 minutes on each area. Ultrasound is commonly used for tendinitis, non-acute joint swelling, muscle spasm, and even to break down scar tissue.
Ultrasound may be added to your massage therapy treatment for an extra $10.00/session.
Reiki is a subtle form of healing that reduces stress and promotes relaxation. It is based on the theory of using the body’s natural ‘life force energy’ to promote healing. It is administered by the therapist’s use of gentle touch to activate the body’s natural healing processes.
Please note that Reiki is available with Elisabeth Mathers only.
